Origin Story
DC Comics Inc., is one of the oldest publishers with the prestige of having the longest running comic books series in history. Founded in 1934 by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson, DC boasts fictional characters such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, as well as the Justice League, and the Teen Titans. Arguably, DC is as well known for it’s villains as it’s heroes. Characters such as The Joker, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn are equally as popular.
DC began with funnies and western comics. Doctor Occult was the first superhero character; created by Jerry Siegel and Canadian artist Joe Shuster in 1935. This duo also created Adventure Comics, and are the creators of Superman and his series, Action Comics, whose first issue was June 1938.
Detective Comics premiered in March 1937, featuring the first appearance of Batman in the 27th issue. DC comic has the bragging rights being publisher for six of the most valuable comics in existence, today.
